Environmental Policy

KJK Ropeworks recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral part of our business strategy and operating methods.
Responsibility

MD Kevin Keatley is responsible for ensuring that this environmental policy is implemented, however, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of this policy are met.

Policy Aims
We endeavour to:
Comply with all relevant regulatory requirements.
Continually improve and monitor environmental performance.
Continually improve and reduce environmental impacts.
Increase employee awareness.

Production
Our product design and production processes are based on being efficient in the use of materials. Over the years we have wanted to use recycled ropes and cords and this year we have found a supplier and launched a range of leads & lanyards made from recycled plastic bottles. Any seconds from our range of leads are given to animal charities to raise funds, and our rope offcuts are given to the local scouts.

Packaging
For product packaging we have reusable click seal bags that are part made of recycled materials and our leaflets are printed on recycled paper.

Despatch
We buy in secondhand boxes and reuse packaging materials that come into us. When we buy in packaging products, we research and use the ones that are made, or part made from recycled materials.

Waste
We look to recycle as much as possible and what little waste we have is collected every three weeks by MDDC under a ‘Zero to Landfill’ scheme.

Buildings
We aim to be as energy efficient as possible, in Spring 2023 we changed our lighting to the more efficient LED lighting and in Autumn 2023 we had solar panels and battery backup installed where we can produce a proportion of our energy and at times feed green energy back into the grid.

Cleaning
We only use Eco cleaning products.

Environment
As a business, we always want to do our bit for the environment, we looked into schemes that planted trees as a carbon offset for businesses. But unsure of the real benefit of these schemes we decided to do our own tree planting. It’s not just the planting of trees but the care of the growing trees for the next ten years plus. We have three acres we are re wilding, restoring a traditional hay meadow, improving habitat, putting up nest boxes and planting trees, native broad-leaved trees as well as fruit trees for pollinators in the spring, and birds in the winter. By Autumn 2023 we had planted over 500 trees.

Monitoring and Improvement
We will comply with all relevant regulatory requirements and continually monitor and strive to improve our environmental performance to reduce our environmental impact. Our aim is to update our policy at least once annually in consultation with staff and other stakeholders where necessary.

Culture
Our management and staff will aim to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle wherever possible to help reduce our carbon footprint and our environmental impact.
